Syedna Ismail Badruddin’s (r.a.) father Al-Mowla Raj (qs) took him to the hazrat of Syedna Dawood bin Qutubshah (r.a.) and submitted him as khumus. Syedna Dawood entered him into Dars.
After the death of his father he took over the entire business and was a major trader in Nagar. He would stay for 4 months in Nagar and then 8 months in study in Ahmedabad. In this time he spent vast sums in the cause of D`awat. Syedna often said to his son, Syedna Abduttayyeb Zakiyuddin (r.a.),
“If spending in Allah’s cause resulted in the loss of wealth then I would have nothing left and if limbs would be worn out as a result of the pursuit of knowledge then I would have no energy left.”
Syedna performed the khidmat of seven Du`aat Kiraam and underwent many trials. During the time of 5 Du`aat he was Waali of Jaamnagar for a total of 40 years.
Syedna had the sharaf of deedaar of Imam-ul-zamaan (a.s.) in a dream in which the Imam brought him good tidings.
Syedna Qasimkhan Zainuddin (r.a.) owed a debt to a mahajan which Syedna famously fulfilled. In a time of drought he sent cart-loads of food grains from Ahmedabad to Nagar.
The Hujuumiyah group formed and Molana sent them a severe letter of reprimand.
Syedna Shujauddin (r.a.) conferred nas upon him, around his house Allah’s guardians could be seen. Molana Badruddin is the first in the line of Du`aat from the descendants of Bharmal and the 10th Daii of Hind.
Molana had a special regard for students of al-ilm and pledged a mannat that if the Daiiship were to come to him then he would cater for their feeding. Consequently Molana initiated the tradition of safra (to this day all Jamea students are catered for by Aqamola (tus)).
Syedna Badruddin assumed the takht of D`awat at the age of seventy-five and remained for twenty years before passing away at the age of ninety-five. He remained firm until then, overseeing all affairs..

Syedna Phir-Khan Shujauddin’s (RA) era (immediately after the shahadat of Syedna Qutbuddin Shaheed (RA))was one faced by oppression and turmoil. His enemies placed him in chains, persecuting Mumineen; forcing them to wear ivory ornaments and shaving their beards amongst other dislikable actions that were imposed upon them.
Yet, through the endeavours of the Du`aat Kiraam (RA) of Aale Mohammed (SA) in these troublesome times, the faith of Mumineen and their steadfastness was secured.
The enemies attacked and vandalised both graveyards damaging graves and the Qubbas themselves.
After Aurangzeb (l.a.) came the Nawab Sha’esta and the oppression was relieved.
Aurangzeb (l.a.) took Syedna Shujauddin and many of his huduud as prisoners from Ahmedabad to Lahore. There his stables caught fire and everything burned down except for the part in which Syedna was held which remained untouched - Allah (ta) had protected him.
It was in this period that the faction known as Hujuumiyah, separated (from D`awat).
Syedna conferred nas upon Syedna Ismail Badruddin bin Mulla Raj (RA). The duration of Molana Shujauddin’s reign was 9 years, 4 months and 11 days.

Rasulallah (SA) had prophesied the martyrdaom of Syedna Qutbuddin al-Shaheed. His father (Syedna Dawood bin Qutubshah (RA)) had also foretold of his shahaadat when Molana Qutbuddin was still infant.
Molana ascended the takht of D`awat, upheld its tenets, raising aloft its banner - no less than twenty two Mumineen mohallas were vibrant at this time. The enemies of D`awat were unable to stomach seeing these shaanaat.
These enemies, namely the likes of Qasim Aandhlo, Abdul Ghavii and Aurangzeb( (l.a.) conspired to murder Syedna Qutbuddin. Syedna Qutbuddin was executed under the charge of being a ‘raafzi’ (one who has deviated from the path of Islam), a charge which Molana refuted by saying that; far from being a ‘raafzi’ - he was upon the essence of the ‘Sunnah’. Molana chose martyrdom over admittance to such a charge.

When Syedna al-Shaikhadam Safiyuddin (28th Dai r.a.) passed away the janaaza namaaz was lead by his successor al-Dail ajal Syedna Abduttayyeb Zakiyuddin (r.a.) - as has always been the sunnat of the Dawat (that the successor performs the janaaza namaaz except in circumstances where the successor is not present at the place of wafaat).
At the culmination of the namaaz the first to offer taaziyah was the grandson of Syedna Al-Shaikadam - Ali bin Ibrahim. He had prayed the janaaza namaaz with Syedna and did qadambosi and conveyed salaams before returning to his home.
That was until such time as he met someone who instilled in him the desire to claim daiship for himself and he fell prey to this in the search of worldy gain. Subsequently he repented and Syedna Zakiyuddin accepted his remorse with great beneficence ordering him and all those who had prayed namaaz behind him in that period to repray their namaaz; which they did.
Ali bin Ibrahim and all those who had followed him re-entered the fray of
Dawat but it was not long before he was lead astray once again by the enemies of Dawat and he again refuted his earlier beliefs.
He and a small group of followers went to Lahore taking their case to the Emperor Jahangir. They lobbied the various wazirs and chieftains by showing themselves as believing in whatever each individual wazir did; to a Sunni they showed themselves as believing in Sunni beliefs, to a Shia they showed themselves as believing in Shia beliefs until they finally submitted to Jahangir that he look into their case.
Jahangir wrote to his waali in Ahmedabad, Saif Khan, and Syedna Zakiyuddin (RA) was taken to Lahore - with great pomp and honour. Syedna’s shaan in Lahore was like that of his father Syedna Dawood bin Qutub (who was also called to Lahore) and Molana was given great proximity by the Emperor who was greatly in awe of Molana.
Jahangir ruled in favour of Molana just as his father had ruled in Syedna Dawood’s favour. Molana was given an official ‘firmaan’ which reinforced that which was given to his father by Akbar. Molana returned to Ahmedabad victorious whilst the pretender was left despondent. (The followers of Ali bin Ibrahim are known as the Alyah sect).

Background information
The last Daii of Yemen was Syedna Mohammed Ezzuddin (RA) who’s wafaat was in 946H. He was succeeded by Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin (RA), first Daii of Hind who returned to Yemen after 5 years as Daii and passed away there in 976H).
Syedna Dawood bin Qutubshah (RA) memorized the entire Qur’an at a very early age. After completing Haj Molana Burhanuddin progressed to the hazrat of Syedna Yusuf in Yemen and was tutored by him.
Molana Burhanuddin assumed the takht of D`awat after the passing of Syedna Dawood bin Ajabshah (997H) and this news was spread throughout the realm of D`awat. The Naib in The Yemen was also informed and letters of tehniyat were received from Huduud Kiraam.
Suleymaan bin Hasan (l.a.) also wrote letters of congratulation in which he admitted to the authenticity of Syedna’s Daiship. Three years on, however, he embarked on subterfuge causing great trouble for Molana and Mumineen. Syedna had to remain secluded for four years.
During this time Syedna Sheikhadam Safiyuddin (RA), Syedi Alimohammed bin Firoze (qs) and other huduud kiraam expended great efforts. Syedna himself proceeded to the court of the Emperor Akbar in Lahore. There, Molana’s virtues shone resplendent and he left victorious.
Thereafter Molana remained in Ahmedabad for 15 years during which time enemies of the D`awat continued to create trouble, Molana was even imprisoned at one stage.
Towards the end of his life Molana took ill and conferred nas upon Syedna Sheikhadam before passing away.

Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin ibne Sulaiman (ra)’s native city was Sidhpur (Gujraat). When the 23th Dai-ul-Mutlaq Syedna Mohammed Izzudin (ra), the last Dai from Yemen, saw the ever growing ‘ikhlaas’ and ‘tafaadi’ of the mumineen of Hind, he started the preparations to shift the Dawat from Yemen to Hind.
Many bright students from Hind went to yemen, to study the ilm of aal-e-Mohammed. Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin (ra) was one of them. Under the guidance of Syedi Hasanji bin Nooh, Syedna’s tarbiyat was completed. When Syedna Mohammed Izzudin(rd) saw the brightness and the capability of Syedna Yusuf (ra), Syedna (qs) personally started to give Him ‘asbaaq’.
After completing the studies, Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin returned to Sidhpur, by then He was the master of all ‘uloom’ and ‘funoon’, and His soul was luminating by the noor of aal-e-Mohammed. Here in Yemen strength of enemies of Dawat was rising day by day. In the year 942H. Syedna Mohammed Izzudiin (ra) did ‘Nus’ on Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin (ra), He was in Sidhpur at that time. He succeeded the Arsh of Dawat, and lived in Sidhpur for five years, there Syedna built a beautiful masjid, which until now shows the glory of that reign. Built 24 shops for mumineen to establish a perfact society in the city.
After five years, Syedna decided to travel to Yemen, where enemies have captured many fortresses belong to Dawat-e-Hadiya. The situation at that time was very difficult in Yemen, a time came when Syedna was taken in the custody by the Hakim too. But by the ‘ta’eed’ and ‘yaari’ of Imamuzamaan He recaptured most of the forts, and the dignity and glory of Dawat was back in yemen. Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin left Syedna Jalal Shamsuddin in Ahmedabad incharge of Dawat there, He did khidmat in Ahmedabad for 20 years. Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin did ‘Nus’ on Syedna Jalal Shamsuddin. After doing khidmat of Imaamuzaman nearly 28 years 9 months and 23 days, syedna passed away from this fani duniya to the place where every thing is forever. His turbat mubarak is in Taiba in Yemen. May Allah give him darajaat aaliya in Jannat-un-Naeem.
The august office of the Dai al-Mutlaq, set up over 800 years ago in Yemen, found its seat move to Hind (India) about four centuries ago, Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin (ra) was the first Dai al-Mutlaq of Hind. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (t.u.s) the 52nd incumbent to the office of al-Dai al-Mutlaq preserving the great heritage of Duat Mutlaqeen and doing Khidmat of Imamuzaman like a Shabaab. May Allah give Him a very healthy life till day of Judgment (AMEEN).

Hadiqato Akhbaril Hudaatil Yemen
Wafaat: 16th Zilhijjatil haraam 974 H, 23rd June 1567 AD, Tayba, The Yemen
Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin bin Suleyman (RA) was the first Da`i of Hind and hailed from Sidhpur (Gujarat, India).
The last of the Yemen Du`aat, Syedna Mohammed Ezzuddin (RA) had overseen the transfer of the Dawat to Hind and he conferred nas upon Syedna Yusuf. Three copies were made of the nas letter and he ordered that one remain in the Yemen and the other two be sent with utmost care in two different ships to reach the Waali of Hind Mowlaya Qasim (qs).
From amongst dissident voices came the question, “What do you know? What is the state of Syedna Yusuf? He is across the seas.”
To this Syedna Ezzuddin replied that “My nas letter will reach him and he will rise to the office of Dawat.”
A day before his institution as Da`i, Syedna Yusuf lay sleeping below a grapevine along the road to Malwa. An astrologer passed by who looked at him closely before saying, “This person should not travel with his feet to the ground; this is a person of stature, he will become a great king and attain a vaunted position.”
Syedna Yusuf was the youngest of seven brothers. When he made intent to go to the presence of the Da`il Mutlaq (in Yemen) he asked his father on the day of Ghadeere-khum that in this mubarak day give your children a gift of money. His father distributed his wealth amongst his sons and Syedna Yusuf offered thanks as he took his share declaring, “With this money I will go for Haj.” Syedna Yusuf’s father said, “Son, I will go with you for Haj” and both sahebs did Haj together. Thereafter they went to the Yemen where they did qadambosi in Hazrat Aaliyah shortly after which Syedna Yusuf’s father, Suleyman (qs), passed away there in the Yemen.
Syedna Yusuf remained in the Da`i’s presence reaping qudsiyah barakaat and doing khidmat.
After Syedna Yusuf’s institution to the office of D`awat there was a conflict between Mumineen and other peoples resulting in a boycott of Mumineen. Syedna Yusuf was incensed by this and he created a completely new and separate mohalla for Mumineen with a new market in which there were 24 shops. He instructed Mumineen to purchase their wares from there and had a well dug by which a Masjid was then built. The Masjid had two tall Minarahs which are preserved till this day. These actions resulted in Mumineen gaining in respect and the opposing peoples being humiliated.
In accordance with Syedna Ezzudddin’s instructions, Syedna Yusuf remained in Hind for five years before coming to Yemen where he stayed secretly in Zabeed. He instructed Mumineen to retake the fortifications that had been lost and went first to Hiraaz where someone advised that he should first take Kahil. Syedna Yusuf told them, “First I will take Akamatul M`eqaab” and did so. Even today evidence remains to mark where Syedna Yusuf entered the fort to retake it.
After the retaking of the forts Syedna Yusuf stayed in Zayyah, Masaar and finally in Taybah.
Syedna Yusuf conferred nas upon Syedna Jalaal Shamsuddin (RA). Mumineen returning from Hind did arz that Syedna Jalaal is severely ill, he may even have passed away. Syedna Yusuf replied, “No, he will not die. My nas will reach him, he will rise to the office of D`awat and will confer nas upon two Dawoods (RA) before passing away.”
Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin’s (RA) reign lasted 28 years, 9 months and 23 days and his qabr mubarak is in Taybah.

Molana conferred nas upon Syedna Mohammed Ezzuddin (RA).
